HONOR Magic8 Pro: a 200 MP periscope, a giant battery — and a catch for Europe
By Peak Phones · Published
The AI camera flagship, half a year in
HONOR introduced the Magic8 series in Shenzhen on October 15, 2025, and brought the Pro to the world from London on January 8, 2026 — only the Pro: the base Magic8 never left China. Germany followed on January 15, and today HONOR sells the phone across most of Europe, the Gulf and Asia-Pacific.
HONOR pitches it as an "AI Camera Flagship", and the pitch is easy to summarize: the most camera and the most battery you can currently get in a bar-shaped Magic — with one regional asterisk that European buyers deserve to see spelled out.
Highlights: what's actually new
- 200 MP periscope telephoto with 3.7× optical zoom (85 mm) and up to 200× digital
- Biggest Magic Pro battery yet — 7,100 mAh silicon-carbon on the global spec sheet (6,270 mAh in EU/UK trim)
- 100 W wired and 80 W wireless HONOR SuperCharge
- Triple ingress rating — IP68, IP69 and IP69K — a first for the Magic line
- 3D ultrasonic fingerprint + 3D ToF face unlock — HONOR calls it "the one and only phone" with both
- Dedicated AI Button with Google Gemini and Gemini Live built in
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with GPU–NPU AI super-resolution and frame generation for games
Design and build: lighter than it has any right to be
At 161.2 × 75.0 × 8.32 mm and 219 g, the Magic8 Pro is both smaller and lighter than its predecessor while carrying a much bigger battery. The front is HONOR's NanoCrystal Shield glass with an SGS 5-star drop-resistance certificate.
Durability is the quiet flex: alongside IP68 and IP69, HONOR added IP69K (the high-pressure, high-temperature jet standard from ISO 20653) — the Magic7 Pro stopped at IP69.
Global colors are Sunrise Gold, Sky Cyan and Black; the fourth color, Snow White, stayed in China.

Display: 6,000 nits and eye-care certificates
The 6.71-inch LTPO OLED runs at 2808 × 1256 with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate. HONOR quotes a 6,000-nit HDR peak, 1,800 nits full-screen and 4,000 nits on a 20% window, with 4320 Hz PWM dimming and a 1-nit minimum for night use.
It is also the first phone with TÜV Rheinland's Full Care Display 5.0 certification, stacking HONOR's eye-comfort tricks — AI Defocus, Circular Polarized Display 2.0 and a circadian night mode.

Performance: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
Like every 2026 flagship that matters, the Magic8 Pro runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (two prime cores at 4.6 GHz, Adreno 840). HONOR's own twist is an "industry-first" GPU–NPU heterogeneous pipeline that upscales games — HONOR claims 850p/60 fps rendered gameplay comes out at 1080p/120 fps.
Europe gets one configuration: 12 GB + 512 GB. The 16 GB + 1 TB version exists, but HONOR officially sells it only in China and the Gulf.
Battery: three official numbers, one European asterisk
This is the section HONOR's marketing won't put on a billboard, but its own spec pages do: the Magic8 Pro has three different official battery capacities depending on where you buy it.
- China: 7,200 mAh typical (7,020 rated)
- Global spec sheet: 7,100 mAh typical (6,920 rated)
- EU and UK retail units: 6,270 mAh typical (6,090 rated) — stated plainly on HONOR's UK spec page, with the same figure embedded in German and Spanish store listings
HONOR has not publicly explained the European cut. Even so, 6,270 mAh of silicon-carbon cell is 420 mAh more than the Magic7 Pro carried, and comfortably more than what the official spec sheets list for a Galaxy S26 Ultra (5,000 mAh) or an iPhone 17 Pro Max — at 219 g.
Charging is 100 W wired (China gets 120 W) and 80 W wireless, with the wireless pad sold separately. Box contents vary by market: China bundles the charger and a case, the UK box ships with neither.

Cameras: the 200 MP periscope is the headline
The circular AiMAGE module houses a 200 MP periscope telephoto (f/2.6, 1/1.4-inch sensor, 3.7× optical zoom at 85 mm, OIS, up to 200× digital) — the kind of sensor size that used to be reserved for main cameras. Next to it sit a 50 MP main camera (f/1.6, 1/1.3-inch, OIS) and a 50 MP ultra-wide (f/2.0, 122°) that doubles as a 2.5 cm macro.
The front camera is a 50 MP ultra-wide with a 3D depth sensor — the same hardware that powers secure 3D face unlock. Video tops out at 4K 120 fps on the back and 4K on the front.

Software: MagicOS 10, an AI Button and seven years of updates
The Magic8 Pro ships with MagicOS 10 on Android 16, and under HONOR's ALPHA PLAN the German store confirms seven years of Android OS and security updates for EU units. It was also among the first phones to receive Android 17 Beta 3 for developers in May 2026 — a good sign the pledge is real.
A dedicated, customizable AI Button on the frame triggers Google Gemini and Gemini Live (a 3-month Google AI Pro trial is bundled), and MagicOS layers on HONOR's own agents: AI Screen Suggestions, an AI Photos Agent with eraser and outpainting, AI Deepfake Detection and AI Voice-Cloning Detection for calls.
China's headline software feature — the self-evolving YOYO agent — did not make the trip west, and neither did BeiDou satellite messaging, which even in China is reserved for the 1 TB model.
Price and availability in Europe
The Magic8 Pro has been on sale in Europe since mid-January 2026, in one configuration (12 GB + 512 GB) and three colors:
- List price: €1,299.90 (Germany, Italy; €1,299 in Spain) / £1,099.99 (UK)
- What HONOR actually charges right now: France sells at €999.90 outright; Germany matches it with a coupon code (until July 1); the UK store runs a £949.99 promotion until June 15
- Most stores throw in gift bundles — Germany currently adds a tablet and earbuds worth around €410
Five months after launch, the street price sitting ~€300 under list makes the Magic8 Pro one of the more aggressively discounted flagships of this generation.

- The battery catch: China gets 7,200 mAh, the global spec says 7,100 mAh — but EU and UK units officially ship with 6,270 mAh.
- EU list price €1,299.90 / £1,099.99 for 12 GB + 512 GB — though HONOR's own stores currently sell it from €999.90.

What could be better
- EU and UK units officially carry 6,270 mAh — not the 7,100/7,200 mAh sold elsewhere — and HONOR doesn't say why
- 16 GB + 1 TB variant is not sold in Europe
- UK box includes no charger (China bundles a 120 W one)
- Snow White color and BeiDou satellite messaging stay in China
- HONOR's own pages disagree on the telephoto's CIPA stabilization rating (6.5 vs 5.5 stops)
Verdict
The Magic8 Pro is HONOR's most complete bar flagship: the 200 MP periscope is genuinely unique hardware, the durability rating is a first, and the battery embarrasses the official numbers of both Samsung's and Apple's biggest phones even in its reduced European trim. That reduction is the one sour note — Europe pays flagship money for measurably less battery than the rest of the world, and HONOR never explains it. At the current ~€999 street price, though, the value argument is hard to ignore: nothing else with this zoom hardware and this battery costs less.
